SSV Awards

School Sport Victoria (SSV) Awards are to recognise and celebrate the incredible achievements of our coordinators, schools, teachers, and volunteers delivering school sport.

These awards highlight the people who go above and beyond to provide high quality SSV school sport opportunities for Victorian students. Award winners are role models and leaders who have demonstrated providing a positive school sport experience for all students.

SSV's purpose is to develop young people through school sport and support schools to maximise opportunities for every student to play. By recognising excellence, we champion the value of school sport and help connect our schools with the wider community.

The SSV awards are divided into 12 categories to ensure a range of contribution to school sport is valued and recognised.

• SSV District Coordinator of the Year (Primary only)

Nomination Guidelines

Who can nominate?

Nominations must be submitted by one of the following:

• School Principals
• Teachers or school staff members
• SSV coordinators or staff members
• Team Vic officials
• State Sporting Organisation representative
• Local sports club representative

Please note that we cannot consider nominations from students, parents or family members.

Some nominations must have the endorsement of the nominees school Principal.

Nominee Requirements

• All nominees are to have been in the position/category for which they are being nominated in the calendar year of their nomination.
• Eligibility and evidence required for each award is outlined in further detail under each award category.

Process

• Nominations are submitted via the SSV website.
• A separate nomination form is required for each nominee. 
• After the closing date, the Chief Executive Officer will establish a sub-committee to assess nominations.
• The decisions of the panel will be final.

SSV Coordinator of the Year Awards

Our SSV Coordinators are the backbone of school sport. They work hard at every level of the SSV interschool sporting pathway to organise high quality events that help students stay active and connected through sport. By working closely with others in their region, they work to provide a positive experience for schools and students.

We want to recognise the dedicated coordinators who make school sport happen across Victoria. The following can be nominated for an award:

• Region Coordinator (Primary and Secondary)
• Division Coordinator (Primary and Secondary)
• District Coordinator (Primary only)
• School Sport Coordinator (Primary and Secondary)

Nominations to demonstrate

• Achievement of SSV’s core purpose.
• Strategic leadership in their role.
• Providing school sporting competition.
• Advocacy for recognition of school sport.
• Impact on increasing student participation.
• Promoted school and community partnerships.
• Personal qualities that have had a positive influence.

Nomination Rules

To keep our awards fair and celebratory, please remember:

• Coordinators cannot nominate themselves for individual awards.
• We highly encourage coordinators to nominate their colleagues to celebrate their achievements and hard work.

Spirit of Sport Award

Spirit of Sport Award

This award is for SSV member schools that have received a Spirit of Sport bannerette at an SSV State Final this calendar year. Schools that have received the bannerette have shown positive values, behaviours, respect, integrity and leadership at the event.

Nominations to demonstrate

We look for schools that celebrate others and create an inclusive environment, with nominations to demonstrate any of the following:

• Spirit of Sport: Positive attitude, love of the sport, celebrating others, inclusive environment.
• Respect: Respect for opponents, teammates, officials, coaches and spectators.
• Integrity: Fair play, honesty, accepting mistakes.
• Leadership: Motivating others, setting a good example, supporting teammates.

Nomination Rules

• This award is for SSV full and associate member schools.
• Schools can self-nominate for this award.

A school may also nominate another school.

Team Vic Team, Official and Volunteer of the Year

These awards celebrate the achievements and dedicated leaders behind our state representative Team Vic teams who participate at School Sport Australia Championships. We recognise teams and officials who perform at a high level, embrace an educational approach to student develop and help students appreciate important community values through their Team Vic experience.

Award winners demonstrate outstanding leadership, ensure every team member has the opportunity to participate and work hard to build strong partnerships between schools and the community.

Nominations can be made for the following Team Vic categories:

• Team Vic Coach of the Year
• Team Vic Manager of the Year
• Team Vic Volunteer of the Year
• Team Vic Team of the Year

Nominations to demonstrate

Nominations for Team Vic coach, manager or volunteer should include:

• Strategic leadership in school sport within the team.
• Fostering positive relationships with all team members.
• Having a positive impact on maximising student participation.
• Promoted school and community partnerships.
• Personal qualities that have had a positive influence.

Nominations for Team Vic team should include:

• Evidence of team achievements, leadership, teamwork, positive behaviour, inclusion and education outcomes.

Nomination Rules

• Team officials cannot self-nominate for individual awards.
• Officials are encouraged to nominate their team for the Team of the Year award.

SSV Service Awards, Recognition Awards and Life Membership

SSV recognises members of the school sport community who should be duly rewarded for their work, service and commitment to school sport. This contribution is identified through the following awards:

• SSV Service Awards: For registered teachers who have served 10 or 20 years as a sports coordinator, a member of an SSV state/region/division/district committee member or a Team Vic official.
• SSV Recognition Awards: For individuals who have made a significant contribution to SSV school sport, even if they are not associated with an SSV school, and does not require an extended period of involvement.  
• SSV Life Membership: Our highest honour. It recognises exceptional leadership and advocacy that goes above and beyond a person’s normal role to shape the future of SSV. Life Membership is not based on years of service, rather contribution to SSV's future.

Nominations to demonstrate

SSV Service Awards:

• Evidence of completed service to SSV.

SSV Recognition Awards:

• Evidence of a significant contribution to SSV, of a general or sport specific nature.

SSV Life Membership Award: demonstrate significant, sustained and high quality advocacy and leadership enhancing the reputation of SSV, considering the following: 

• General attitude and demeanour must be one that reflects a dedication to the values of SSV 
• Valued leadership and good role modelling, reflecting credit on SSV 
• Specific contribution to SSV through their roles and responsibilities 
• Contributions to SSV research, policy formulation and public awareness 

Nomination Rules

• Satisfying the above criteria for Life Membership does not infer automatic granting of Life Membership.
