The School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic (state representative) program provides an opportunity for Victoria’s emerging student athletes to challenge themselves against Australia’s best school aged athletes across numerous sports at the annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships.
SSV coordinate the selection process for Team Vic teams in partnership with relevant state sporting organisations. Depending on the sport and team, the selection process involves either:
To be eligible for selection, students must:
Students registering for trials are indicating that they will be available for all stages of the trial process. For information on the sports and teams participating in the SSA Championships, please refer to the individual Team Vic sport pages on the SSV website.
All students must register to trial for Team Vic via the registration link on each Team Vic sport page. The registration dates for each sport can be found on the Team Vic Sport and Registrations Key Dates page.
Prior to registering, interested students and their family must consult with their School Principal or Physical Education Teacher. This is to ensure that only suitably skilled students are registering to trial for what is a competitive, representative pathway. It is not a process designed to prepare students for the next year or as a come and try session.
Registration information for teams will be published closer to the time of registrations opening through the SSV website, and may be published on social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram, and the SSV enews. Please note the following:
The team selection process varies amongst sports. Generally, eligible students must be of a particular age. Age-based eligibility is calculated as of 31st December in the year of competition, except where other specific age eligibility is applied under certain SSA competition rules.
Below are the eligible ages for each sport:
Both SSV and SSA have Codes of Conduct to ensure a positive experience throughout the trial process and Championship events. It is imperative that all participants are familiar with these expectations as well as the consequences of breaching the codes prior to participating in the trials or in Championship events. School Sport Victoria Code of Conduct, and School Sport Australia Code of Conduct.
Trialists will be notified as to whether they have progressed to the next selection stage generally within a week of the trial(s) concluding. If it has been more than a week and you have not received notification, please contact a member of the National Programs Team at SSV.
Team Vic teams will be provisionally announced via the SSV website generally within 7 business days of the final trial. Team selection is provisional until the following conditions are met:
Information regarding multiclass events, classification, scoring and sporting opportunities is available on the Multiclass page on the SSV website.
Participation in SSV Team Vic representative teams is fully self-funded, so families will be required to meet the costs of their child being a member of a team. Such costs include host state and administration levies, training and team equipment costs, uniform, transport, accommodation, and meals.
Please note, a parent or carer is required to travel with their child to the SSA Championship and be primarily responsible for the supervision of their child outside of official SSA Championship activities.
SSV can provide some indicative costs to help families budget. The cost of the SSA Championships host state and administration levies and Team Vic uniform is approximately $1400.00 per student. All costs associated with travel, accommodation and meals for a student and parent or carer will be in addition to the costs above. These costs will vary and depend upon the location and timing of the Championship and are the responsibility of the parent or carer.
Information regarding the various financial support options available can be found on the Financial Assistance page on the SSV website.
The main fundraising approach available to families is the Australian Sports Foundation, which provides an online platform to assist with the costs of participating in the SSA Championships. The platform enables prospective sponsors, schools, community clubs, families and friends to assist with your fundraising efforts.
Furthermore, the Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund grants $1000.00 scholarships to emerging athletes facing financial hardship. Athletes aged 10 to 18 years old who have been selected to represent their state, territory or Australia are eligible to apply on their website.
