At the primary level, School Sport Victoria (SSV) offers an exciting 9 v 9 format designed to encourage maximum participation and engagement for all students.

Competition Pathway

Primary school teams can progress from matches with local schools to State Final.

District > Division > Region > State

Age Groups

There is one age group at primary level with schools able to enter teams for:

• Girls
• Boys/Mixed

Secondary School

At the secondary level, Australian Football is played as an 18-a-side format.

Secondary school teams can progress through 3 levels, from a local Division through to Region and State Final levels. 

Division > Region > State

Secondary school competitions are played at the Division, Region, and State levels. These events focus on high-level participation and foster a positive, competitive environment for all students.

Age Groups

Schools can enter teams for the following age groups:

• Year 7: Boys/Mixed
• Year 8: Boys/Mixed
• Junior (Years 7 to 8): Girls
• Intermediate (Years 9 to 10): Girls and Boys
• Senior (Years 11 to 12): Girls and Boys

Premier League

The Premier League is a higher level within the secondary school program. It was created to provide a pathway for specialist sports schools with high performing teams. Schools can enter teams for.
