Cross Country

School Sport Australia (SSA) present the Cross Country Championships on an annual basis.

School Sport Victoria enters one representative team in each of the following SSA Cross Country Championships:
  • 10-12 Years
  • 10-12 Years Multi Class

These championships offer gifted and talented students the opportunity to participate in higher levels of sporting competition against students from other Australian States and Territories.

Participation in a School Sport Victoria Team Vic state team is self funded.  As a guide, it may cost between $1,500-$2,000 to participate.  Costs may include uniforms, host state levies, flights, transport, accommodation and meals.  Costs will vary depending on the location of the Championship.

10-12 Years and 10-12 Years Multi Class:

Students who wish to be considered for the Team Vic State Cross Country Team to participate in the SSA Cross Country National Championships will need to qualify at each SSV interschool level (district, division, region) to then be eligible to compete at the SSV State Cross Country Championships.  Selection for the Team Vic Team for the above two age groups is determined by individual performance at the SSV State Cross Country Championships. Details regarding the Team Vic Opportunity for this sport is listed in the Event Calendar on the right hand side of this page.

For the Team Vic Selection Guidelines for all 10-12 year Students (this includes Multi Class) click on the side of this page.

13-19 Years and 13-19 Years Multi Class:

School Sport Victoria does not enter a 13-19 Years and 13-19 Years Multi Class Cross Country individual team in the SSA Cross Country Championships.

Athletics Victoria selects a team from the Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championship Event held in June each year. Interested students should register directly with Athletics Victoria when registrations open. (Approximately between February and April of each year)

Each Event Calendar listing will contain information regarding:
  • Selection Guidelines
  • Dates and Venues of each Championship

Virtual Cross Country

Built on the success of the 2020 Virtual Cross Country event, SSV is delighted to provide this great opportunity again in 2021. Victorian primary and secondary students can take part in any way they would like - they can run or walk.

Students can run or walk for a new personal best or for fun and fitness. The main aim is for students to get out and give it a go. Every meter run by a student will earn virtual points for their school. Students will be given the option to submit their performance, but if they wish they also now have the additional option to not have their performance made public. #SSVVXC
