  There are different competition pathways for primary and secondary schools.

  Primary schools

  1. District competition
  2. Division competition
  3. Regional competition
  4. State competition

  Secondary schools

  1. Division competition
  2. Regional competition
  3. State competition

  Districts, divisions and regions: 

  • are assigned to SSV member schools based on their geographical location. 
  • cannot be changed by students or schools under any circumstances (they must compete where they have been allocated). 
  • individuals and school teams need to compete at every level of competition to reach the State Championships for their sport (unless they have met the Invitation Policy Criteria or been advanced as part of the Appeals and Grievances Policy).

  For mainstream schools

  How students can progress in the SSV Competition Pathway is described by numbers: 

  • outlined by SSV Interschool Sport team. 
  • approved by the SSV Chief Executive Officer. 
  • reviewed yearly and communicated to member schools when updated. 
  • in Appendix A; note there is some flexibility for Primary Districts and Secondary Division to determine their own progression numbers where stated. 
  • for levels above Primary District and Secondary Division, numbers can only be varied by approval by the SSV Interschool Sport Manager or an SSV Interschool Sport team member. 
  • Multi Class students in mainstream schools must follow the same pathways and progressions as their able-bodied fellow students (please see the next section for specialised school numbers).

  For Specialised Schools

  How students attending specialised schools can progress in the SSV Competition Pathway is described by numbers: 

  • recommended by the SSV Interschool Sport Manager 
  • approved by the SSV Chief Executive Officer 
  • reviewed yearly and communicated to member schools when updated 
  • are in Appendix B, noting there is flexibility for more students to be invited to higher competition levels (determined by the SSV Interschool Sport Manager or their delegate).

• Changes to competitions

  Expand Changes to competitions

  Competition pathways or progression numbers can change if: 

  • proposed by the SSV Interschool Sport Team, or any SSV Region representative (must be received by the SSV Interschool Sport Manager by 30 June each year). 
  • approved by the SSV CEO to be put forward for a vote. 
  • voted for by the Region Forum, and there must be three quarters (3/4) of the number of Regions in favour of the change. 
  • approved by the SSV Chief Executive Officer.
