Classification ensures fair competition by grouping students with similar impairments together. This process allows multiclass athletes to compete equitably in their chosen sport. The assessment process is managed by national sporting federations in partnership with SSV.
All students with an eligible impairment must be classified if they wish to compete as a multiclass athlete at interschool Region or State level, or School Sport Australia Championships.
The process varies between impairment groups and may involve a face-to-face assessment or a review of medical paperwork.
Each group is assigned specific sport classes for Track and Field, Cross Country, and Swimming.
