SSV Coordinators
Dedicated SSV Coordinators
Our purpose is to develop young people through school sport and support schools to maximise opportunities for every student to play. We champion the value of school sport and connect the community through our network of coordinators. These leaders ensure that all students—including those in mainstream and multiclass programs—have a safe and celebratory environment to achieve their best.
Supporting the Sporting Journey
Our coordinators are the heartbeat of school sport in Victoria. They manage the logistics, foster resilience and celebrate the achievements of every participant. Below, you can meet the team and hear about the memories that drive their dedication to student sport.
SSV Coordinators in Alphabetical Order
Eastern Metropolitan Region Coordinator Favourite school sport memory: My participation in sport at school was a big reason why I became a Physical Education teacher. In particular, my involvement in Interschool Basketball. The memories and stories I still share with friends around participating in events such as the Australian Schools Basketball Championships have helped shape the person I am today. Favourite memory would be winning a Gold Medal at the Australian Schools Championships in my final year at school.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I love the people that you get to work with along the way. This includes Sport Coordinators from schools, people that convene events for you, Venue Managers and also other Region and Division Coordinators. I have met some fantastic people along the way and I have certainly learnt plenty from the people I have met.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? The Eastern Region has always been very strong across all areas of competition. I can proudly say that in 12 years of completing the role, I have never had to cancel a competition due to not having schools entering the competitions. This is a great achievement for the Region.
Boroondara (Secondary) Division Sport Coordinator
Your favourite school sport memory? From a student who wasn't overly thrilled about PE classes in primary years (very different now, ironically), to someone who got the chance to compete in state Swimming and Region Soccer – I have very fond memories of participating in SSV competitions.
What do you love about your role with SSV? Coming from a coaching background, it's given me the chance to connect with a multitude of likeminded coaches/teachers and athletes, just as passionate! Seeing students excel and having the ability to support them in this role is something very special. Having the pleasure to be a part of Team Vic (Swimming) as Team Manager has also been a unique experience – an incredible team and culture I have yet to see anywhere else.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? As this is my first season in the role, all Sport Coordinators have been extremely welcoming and awesome to work with! Division Carnival days have been a lot of fun. Very keen to also get back up to the Gold Coast for this year's Pacific School Games!
Secondary Northern Metropolitan Region Coordinator
Favourite school sport memory: All the opportunities. Without school sport I would have played AFL and Cricket only, but with school sport I also got the chance to participate in competitive Baseball, Hockey, Cross Country, Track and Field and Soccer. As someone who loves the competitive nature of sport, the more opportunities I got to compete in something physical and athletic, the happier I was.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I love meeting the hundreds and hundreds of people that you do after years in a Region coordinator job. If it was purely a role behind a computer screen with no real-life interactions with people, I doubt I would have stayed in this role for this long.
District Coordinator Ascot Vale
Favourite school sport memory: Competing at State level in running and swimming at Lakeside/MSSC in high school!
What do you love about your role with SSV? Guiding and collaborating with all the wonderful PE staff in our District to hold such amazing events for the students at our schools! The joy and smiles on the faces of our students makes all our efforts worthwhile!
What would you like to highlight that you have achieved in your role? Coordinating staff from 13 schools in successfully organising and implementing the wonderful sporting events and carnivals that we do.
What is the greatest value of school sport? I personally love the fact that sports can do so much for a community of people from all walks of life! We have a diverse District that celebrates inclusivity and cultures from all around the world. Seeing the joy in students mastering a skill or partaking in a team sport for the first time encapsulates the power of school sports!
District Coordinator of the Ballan District
Teacher at Gordon PS
Your favourite school sport memory? My favourite sport memory from school was when we won the Division B Football Grand Final when I was in Year 11. We were the first team to win a football premiership from our school, so that's special!
What do you love about your role with SSV? What I love the most is being able to give students the opportunity to participate in multiple sports across the year. Students can learn so much through sport like working together in a team, competing against other students and learning how to be gracious in victory and defeat.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? Something that I am proud of from 2024 is each school in our district had at least one student compete at the Regional Athletics competition. Our schools are quite small compared to other schools in Ballarat, so for our schools to have that happen is an amazing achievement.
Hume Primary Region Coordinator
Primary PE Coordinator, Yarrawonga College P-12. Yarrawonga District Coordinator, Ovens and Mitta Division Coordinator.
Your favourite school sport memory? I have played sport since I was a young child, little athletics, tennis, swimming and anything to do with water, basketball, cricket and my all time favourite netball. I started to coach netball and became a badged umpire when I was 14. My long-time netball coach insisted that we give back to sport what we had received from it. I think this then began my lifelong journey to become a teacher and senior coach.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I absolutely love my Hume region team that I have been lucky enough to work with since 2007. It is my team that makes it so much fun to run events and in turn to be surrounded by enthusiastic students who are given the opportunity to compete at any sport in a friendly environment within beautiful country sportsgrounds and facilities (Rick Thompson, Kate Nichols, Leanne Hadley, Liam Delaney and Brooke Maher).
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? Come to North East Victoria! We have amazing facilities, healthy country kids and lots to do! Hume rocks!
Keon Park District Sports Association Coordinator
Your favourite school sport memory? Winning the hardball cricket competition in Grade 6.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I am proud to provide the students in our district the opportunity to learn and participate in numerous sports and achieve milestones they will remember for the rest of their lives.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? The Keon Park district has a high number of multicultural families, and we are proud to introduce these children to sports such as Australian Rules Football and Cricket. We value participation and run sports such as Tunnel Ball and Cross Ball at our Athletics Day carnivals to give all students a chance to participate in a sport on the day. Tunnel Ball has a cult following at my school and students train at recess every day in Term 1 for this event. In fact, many Grade 6's mention Tunnel Ball as one of their primary school highlights when they graduate!
Region Coordinator for Greater Western Region (and Sovereign and Eureka Division Coordinator)
Favourite school sport memory: For me, it was something that only happened recently. I was in Brisbane working as a coach with Team Vic Swimming Team. In the Boys 17-19 years 200m Breaststroke race, the swimmer who won actually set a new games record. When the swimmers realised, they all swam over and congratulated him. All ten swimmers were in one lane celebrating their competitor who achieved something pretty amazing. This moment showcased everything we hope for in our aspiring athletes. It's the community around us that makes sport special.
What do you love about your role with SSV? Being able to provide pathways for students from beginner level through to state level sport.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? We're proud that Primary and Secondary Region work closely together whenever we get the chance. We run our Swimming and Cross Country together and have moved our track and field so they are on consecutive days.
Western Ranges Division Coordinator
Favourite school sport memory: I greatly enjoyed representing my primary school (Bacchus Marsh Primary School) and secondary school (St Patrick's College, Ballarat) in various different sports especially Tennis, Cricket, Football and Track and Field. I loved the culture that both of these schools provided, allowing me to foster greater friendships and allowing me to participate in sports that I would never have before such as Rugby and Ultimate Frisbee.
What do you love about your role with SSV? Building relationships with staff and students at all schools and creating structures to allow us to work together to enhance our sport programs and participation. I love ensuring that schools have the resources and understanding of avenues to provide their students with access to a range of sports.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? When starting my position, I contacted and developed close relationships with engagement officers from all of the sports that we provide to our schools/students. This added to the enjoyment of the day, providing additional professionalism and initiatives. By inviting representatives to our carnivals, we provided the ability to have activities between matches, while allowing the students to build connections to local sporting clubs to continue their participation.
Camberwell South PS and Boroondara Primary Division Coordinator Wellbeing Learning Specialist & Physical Education Teacher/Sport Coordinator
Your favourite school sport memory? Definitely our run up to the long jump pit. The pit was below the oval with limited space so we had to run from the goals on the oval, down a small hill and jump into the pit. I was also lucky enough to have a passionate teacher who valued movement and trying as many different sports as possible. Attending a small country school, we travelled everywhere to be involved in sport.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I love the opportunity to provide quality experiences for students and schools through engaging umpires, facilities and supporting other organisations. Carnival days and gala days are enjoyable events that hopefully will provide a positive experience and encourage students to continue their pathway towards community sport. Add to this the experience for students to challenge themselves against one another and strive to achieve their best is always pleasing to see.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? Incredibly privileged to work with some amazing people in the eastern metropolitan region who strive to make school sport accessible to all and provide the best possible experiences. We all continue to work closely and support one another where we can.
District Coordinator (Bentleigh Primary) & Division Coordinator (Beachside Primary)
Favourite school sport memory: I have numerous favourite memories! I moved to a new school where the motivated and caring P.E staff actively promoted sport activities and the SSV pathways. By getting involved in school sport I quickly made friends for life and participated in a plethora of sports. One of my favourite memories was my year 11 vs year 12 lunchtime volleyball (battles!) training sessions.
What do you love about your role with SSV? You get to meet amazing people and learn new things. I feel passionately about providing the best possible sport experience for all involved. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by like-minded staff that bring that philosophy to life. Whilst working at SSV major activities I continue to build my knowledge and understanding of the SSV policies and procedures. It has also helped me to develop an extensive range of inter-personal skills (essential, when things don't go to plan on the day).
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? I have been: the Bentleigh District Coordinator for 24+ years; the Beachside Division Coordinator for the past 12 years; TeamVIC Rugby League manager for 10 years; PSE teacher at Murrumbeena Primary school for 24 years. I would like to encourage everyone to get involved in the SSV network. There are many options, various commitment levels or simply volunteer to attend SSV events. Your knowledge and professional network will grow quickly.
Hume Secondary
Favourite school sport memory: As I have only just started, I really don't have a favourite memory yet. But so far I would have to say it is to be able to watch all the students participating in the Regional Level of sports.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I love seeing students playing and participating in sports.
What would you like to highlight that you have achieved in your role? Getting through my first event. I was very nervous but I had great support from all the staff, teachers and students.
What is the greatest value of school sport? The greatest value of school sport is its ability to develop well-rounded individuals. It teaches students teamwork, resilience, confidence and leadership while fostering a sense of belonging and connection to their school. For teachers, sport strengthens relationships and provide opportunities to support students beyond the classroom. At a broader level, school sport builds positive school culture, strengthens community connections and encourages lifelong participation in physical activity. Ultimately, its value lies in developing strong people, not just strong athletes.
Loddon Mallee Region Coordinator – Secondary Physical Education & Sport Coordinator at Rochester Secondary College
Your favourite school sport memory? Some of my most cherished childhood memories are of sporting days and basketball/netball tournaments, achieving championships with friends. Now as a mum of three boys, I have made some special memories watching my sons achieve sporting success in both local team sports and SSV events.
What do you love about your role with SSV? Sport has been and still is a huge part of my life. This role allows me to give back and I am very grateful to be part of a team that works to provide many sporting opportunities for students in our region that they otherwise may not get to experience. It is so rewarding to see the enjoyment of students participating in our events and achieving success along the way.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? We have a really strong sporting region and as a result get to witness some closely contested competitions across a range of events. I look forward to seeing this continue to grow.
Southern Metro Primary Coordinator
Favourite school sport memory: Basically everything about sport – that's why I became a sport teacher. I had three terrific P.E teachers in my schooling and they inspired me to teach P.E. I loved everything from the everyday school lessons – prac and theory – and competing in Interschool Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming.
What do you love about your role with SSV? Creating positive experiences at sporting events and life-long memories for the students.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? I would like to continue to develop, and improve on, the many quality events SSV already provides throughout the school year.
Swan Hill Division Coordinator Secondary, Swan Hill College Sports Coordinator
Your favourite school sport memory? Breaking a long-standing drought with my Primary House Group in Year 5 which led to a period of domination in the following years. Fortunate to have been exposed to high quality PE teachers whilst at school, who inspired me to follow their lead, as well as numerous opportunities for sport participation in Primary School (St Fidelis Coburg) and Secondary School (Strathmore), whether that be through playing or coaching various teams.
What do you love about your role with SSV? Opportunity to network with like-minded individuals from all over the state, to provide the greatest opportunity for the students to participate and showcase their skills whilst experiencing the many benefits that sport has to offer.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? Provide a high level sporting program for the students of our region, and continuing to build on the relationships between the local primary and secondary schools through coaching, umpiring and skill development opportunities.
SSV Secondary Region Coordinator Physical Education Teacher, Berwick Secondary College
Your favourite school sport memory? Over the years, I have seen many great moments, so hard to pick one. But I will go with the most recent that involved my school's Senior Boys Netball team. For several years in a row we just fell short of making State. But we persisted. In 2025 we finally made it. And we made the grand final. What a game it was – we took the court without our GK (off to hospital) and another player sidelined with an ankle injury. The team had to pivot in their positions. The team fought and fought hard, only to be defeated in double overtime. What made this memorable was how tight the boys were, getting around each other, clapping good play, encouraging each other to keep going despite how tired and sore they were. They had pride in who they were playing for. So memorable. Such a fabulous group of young men.
What do you love about your role with SSV? Ultimately, I love seeing the students doing well in their chosen sports. I am always amazed at how good our young students are. I also love the challenge of getting a carnival together – working with venues, officials and school coordinators. Then just watching it all unfold on the day. The officials I get to work with are truly passionate about making a great carnival or sports day. I also love getting to work with and meet the school sports coordinators. It's always nice to put faces to names, and then develop a good working relationship with them.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? One thing I feel I have achieved is giving the schools a voice – when needed – in making decisions. This could be in relation to rescheduling sports days due to poor weather or venue constraints, looking at how we want a carnival to run (Cross Country in particular), collaborating to get our Futsal competition up and running at the junior level or just asking for extra help on sports days. It has shown me that my region has amazing sports coordinators.
What is the greatest value of school sport? I think you cannot say only one value. The value of school sport covers many areas, some of which include: A) bringing teachers and students together to work towards a common goal, regardless of the outcome — this builds great bonds that continue throughout the students' schooling years; B) a sense of pride in all the students achieve, as an individual, part of a team and then as part of their school community. These aspects help to bring the school community together to celebrate the great work our students do and can achieve. And this hopefully then shows the students they 'can do'.
Mickleham Division Coordinator (Secondary)
Your favourite school sport memory? Coached for squash by the super coach himself Phiv Demetriou. I was very lucky to witness and be taught by such a passionate, dedicated teacher in the classroom with accounting; but most importantly, interschool sports. Phiv opened up many sporting opportunities and exposures we may not have had if he didn't push us.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I love running the carnival days when I can interact with the staff that support me in my role, but most importantly with the kids so I can celebrate their successes with them too.
Yarra Division Coordinator (EMR Secondary)
Favourite school sport memory: As a student; swimming and athletics was always a great opportunity to bond with students and staff outside of my year level, and feel our school's culture. As a teacher; a few years ago at our athletics carnival, we had a special needs student (Year 10) enter the 1500m. He was not prepared for the event, and looked to stop after 800m. Suddenly, 20-30 students (from all ages) noticed and ran from the grandstand to encourage him. They all ran together until he finished the event. Sport creates these wonderful moments!
What do you love about your role with SSV? The physical, mental and social benefits of sport are significant. I am proud to be in a position to promote sport in our division, and hope to further increase the number of students playing sport, and hope to grow their skill level and confidence within the school environment.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? Conduct a high level Sport program for our Athletes. I would also love to create some 'not so competitive' events for students in our division. I think it's important to provide physical activity opportunities for the students who aren't confident in sport.
District Coordinator St Albans
Favourite school sport memory: Being given the opportunity to be involved in many Interschool sports. It helped to inspire me to be a PE teacher, with a love of all sports.
What do you love about your role with SSV? From a District point of view, I love that through the Interschool sports competitions and Gala days, we get to see some children play some sports for the first time. The smiles that come from seeing someone score their first goal in basketball or mark the ball in football are why we do this. From a Team Vic point of view, I love that I get to help elite athletes reach the highest level they can in their event as well as get to work with and learn from an amazing group of coaches and team managers that make every trip incredible.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? In the St Albans District, we understand that a lot of our students don't play sport outside of school. We pride ourselves on the fact that we are here to give our kids a chance to find their passion for sport, with the aim of them joining a team/sport. We are the first step on their sporting journey.
Moorabbin District Coordinator, PE and Sports Teacher at Valkstone Primary School
Your favourite school sport memory? My favourite sports memory from when I was at school was representing the '1st' tennis team and captaining my team.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I absolutely love my role as District Coordinator for many reasons. It is very rewarding organising events for so many students and watching those students flourish on the day. I love seeing the students keeping fit, healthy and happy and enjoying their sporting activities, especially on nice sunny days! Everyone shines on sports days and I love being able to facilitate that and watch that unfold. I really enjoy watching students trying and competing in new sports and as a result perhaps joining a club. I relish seeing passionate students who are so incredibly talented at their sports go on and do awesome things!
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? I would like to showcase an incredibly supportive, friendly and cohesive District that I manage. The PE teachers are wonderful and make my job easy! The Moorabbin Sports District is an amazing District to co-ordinate with a great community of schools.
Loddon Mallee Region Secondary Coordinator, PE/music/science teacher/sport coordinator at Mildura Christian College
Your favourite school sport memory? Track & field training most lunchtimes with Ouyen's outstanding teacher and coach, Russell Parsons. He also organised and ran an annual school triathlon at and around the Ouyen pool which we were very blessed to be able to experience!
What do you love about your role with SSV? Meeting, working with and serving so many wonderful people from all over our region. I also love searching for ways to tighten and streamline processes.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? The top quality work done by local schools for our big 3 carnivals — Swan Hill (Swimming volunteers), St Arnaud (Organising and maintaining a great cross country event) and Weerona (Athletics volunteers). Participant schools also supply volunteers for each event who make invaluable contributions, making things run smoothly.

Mordialloc District Primary Coordinator, PE Teacher, Mentone Primary School
Your favourite school sport memory? My favourite memory was having team sporting opportunities and playing lots of footy, cricket and soccer with my mates at Beaumaris PS and Mentone Grammar. A highlight being playing some of my Year 11 and 12 football against some players that would go on to become future AFL stars. School and some pretty awesome PE teachers helped me develop a love of sport and physical activity and now I get to teach it as a job which is very fulfilling.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I have been Mordialloc District Coordinator for 7 years now and I love watching kids have opportunities to compete, develop their skills, game sense and push for their personal bests. I have loved learning about the technical aspects and procedures of particular sports e.g. Swimming and Athletics and also building my professional network across SSV. Upskilling and bouncing ideas off colleagues helps build understanding of sports and lifts the standard of instruction and school sport across our District.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? Our District has introduced a Primary Lacrosse Gala Day in recent years which has grown from strength to strength amongst our 11 schools. It is now entrenched in our calendar, schools develop Lacrosse skills through their PE programs and we have even had some of our District member schools win the state championships in recent years.

What do you love about your role with SSV? Seeing students enjoy participating in sports – especially sports they don't regularly play outside of school.
Western Metropolitan Region Coordinator
Your favourite school sport memory? As a student, I felt so excited and proud to represent my school at inter-school competitions in athletics and netball. As a young teacher, my favourite highlight was witnessing my students win the State Primary Boys/Mixed AFL Championship, a match won in overtime. It was a joyful occasion for students, staff, families and our community. Post-event, I facilitated a novelty match for the team to play against the Collingwood Football Club, including superstar Scott Pendlebury. It was an extraordinary season that culminated in the most spectacular way, that the whole community could be a part of.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I take great pride in fostering a positive environment, executing trials and experiences that reflect best practice, not only supporting broad participation but also catering to aspirational students and those on an elite pathway.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? All of the people associated with Western Metro Region and the wider School Sport Victoria team are fantastic to work with and go above and beyond in their respective roles. It is a fun environment and I love being a part of it!

Boroondara Division Coordinator (EMR Secondary), Assistant Director of Sport, Health and Physical Education teacher, Balwyn High School
Your favourite school sport memory? Being able to compete, learn and play a variety of sports. Growing up whether it was at Primary school or Secondary School, I loved all things Sport. Whether it was PE lessons, interschool sport, being a house captain, or even coaching junior year level teams as a Senior student, I had so many opportunities, which I'm very grateful for. It was through these experiences at school that made me want to be a Health and Physical Education teacher. Now as a teacher, aside from having the chance to coach an array of sports, the staff vs student matches are always a highlight.
What do you love about your role with SSV? Being able to provide multiple opportunities for students to participate in sport and physical activity and seeing the enjoyment it brings them. It's great to see students who don't usually participate in competitions outside of school being able to achieve success in ours. Anything you would like to showcase in your area? I'm fortunate to be a part of such a great team and strong division. We have high participation rates from our schools throughout our interschool sport program and hold competitions for all sports offered in the SSV program across all year levels. Whitehorse Primary Division and North Balwyn District Coordinator (EMR)
Favourite school sport memory: Being a Prep (a long long time ago) having Hawthorn Premiership Player Brian Douge as my PE teacher and him launching 60-metre torpedoes on the oval for us to try and mark. I also remember all the Gala days, Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming carnivals that were such a rich part of growing up in the country.
What do you love about your role with SSV? Providing opportunities for each and every student to compete, whether it be at a local school level or those that are navigating the pyramid to reach Team Vic or individual Personal Bests at SSV carnival events. To be honest the SSV carnivals are my favourite part of the job.

Northern Peninsula Division Coordinator Health and Physical Education Teacher at Elisabeth Murdoch College
Your favourite school sport memory? Way back in 1999 when I was in grade 6, I went to Mount Eliza Primary School and was a part of the school footy team. We had some great players in the team including Nathan Jones ex Melbourne Football Club. I remember making it through each stage, playing many different teams in different parts of Victoria and eventually we made the state final against Geelong that was played at Trever Baker Oval. Unfortunately, we lost the final, but I had great memories of that whole process which included a write up in the local newspaper and our coach organised a training session with Nathan Burke from St. Kilda Football Club.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I love setting up all the different sporting events that we do in NPD and then seeing the enjoyment the students get from attending these events. I love now being on the other side and getting out to the events and seeing all the talented athletes as well as those just getting out and trying new things with their mates in some friendly competition.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? NPD has just introduced the Interschool Cup for the first time in 2024. We have a cup for each term and an overall cup, points are accumulated for where schools place in each event and are also rewarded for participating in our NPD events. We're hoping to see schools participating in as many events as possible and boosting the participation in all the sports we offer at NPD.

I have met and worked with some amazing and passionate teachers and ES staff across my 12 years and value their dedication and input into the division and region.

Anything you would like to showcase in your area? I would like to acknowledge the exceptionally high standard of competition across all of our sporting events.
District Coordinator for Oakleigh District PE Teacher at Christ Our Holy Redeemer Oakleigh; Sustainability & Garden Teacher at St Judes Langwarrin
Your favourite school sport memory? When I was at Secondary school I was not really good at sport but I was nominated as Silver Captain and we played a game called 'Ruined Camp'. This was the best game ever and as the Captain I got to be the last person over and we won many times. I teach it to my 5/6 students now, who also love it.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I love working with other P.E. Teachers in my District and getting to know the talents of the children from the different schools.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? I have the best group of P.E. Teachers to work with. We all work well together and support each other. The children in their schools show great respect for all schools when we play and we have fun with sport. The Division Coordinator Kerryn is amazing and very supportive as well.
Glenroy District Coordinator
Favourite school sport memory: Being a House Captain in Grade 6 and winning the house athletic carnival and representing school in Netball in Grade 5 & 6.
What do you love about your role with SSV? Working with representatives from the Glenroy district schools to provide Interschool Sports opportunities for the students. For many of our students in the district, Interschool Sport is the only time they participate in organised sport.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? All the representatives getting to know each other and supporting each other to organise events and taking on different responsibilities at events such as Cross Country and Athletic Carnivals.
Chelsea and Patterson District Coordinator, Kingston Division Primary Coordinator Physical Education Teacher, Chelsea Heights Primary School
Your favourite school sport memory? Growing up in Canada, my favourite school sport memory was winning the Primary Floor Hockey Championship in back-to-back years.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I love being able to provide a positive sporting experience for all students and schools involved at the District and Division level. These events will hopefully give them some great memories to look back on and encourage them to keep active and involved in sports. I also enjoy working with the other PE teachers as well as District and Division Coordinators.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? The one sport that our District does well to encourage participation and inclusiveness for all abilities has been lawn bowls. It provides the students who might not necessarily play sports outside of school a great opportunity to be successful and find enjoyment in sport.
Watsonia District Coordinator Physical Education & Sport Coordinator, Watsonia North Primary School
Your favourite school sport memory? I have always lived and breathed sport, so I have many favourite memories to choose from. One highlight was in Year 8, finishing 2nd in the 4 x 100 state final at Olympic Park. Then in Year 11, my high school football team made the Herald Sun Shield Grand Final. The game was played on the MCG before an AFL night game, I think the whole high school attended. That is the great part about the team sports I played, both football and cricket, where some of my opponents later became teammates, which eventually led to the formation of life-long friendships.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I really enjoy organising the carnival days. Seeing the students supporting each other, displaying teamwork, aiming for a personal best, giving encouragement and most importantly, having fun, really makes the job so rewarding. Also, working with amazing colleagues, who are all passionate in providing interschool sports opportunities for the students.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? We have a fantastic team of sports coordinators and staff in the district that are a pleasure to work with. Our annual Girls' Soccer Gala Day has always been a success. We have developed strong connections with local secondary colleges who also help to support our carnivals and sports finals.
Broadmeadows District Coordinator & Northern Metropolitan Region (Primary) Coordinator and SSV Advisory Committee Member PE Teacher, Dallas Brooks Community PS
Your favourite school sport memory? Representing my school across a wide range of sports, events and levels with my brother and friends. I appreciate my teachers with the opportunities they provided and their support towards me along the way.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I love that we, as coordinators, have the opportunity to facilitate quality experiences for all involved and for our students to continue to learn, have fun and further develop a lifelong love for sport.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? It's amazing what our Broadmeadows District teachers and schools do to provide opportunities for our students and families by fostering endless Physical Literacy experiences that our students and families often don't have access to.
Latrobe Valley Division Coordinator Physical Education & Sport Teacher, Morwell Park Primary School
Your favourite school sport memory? I always loved school swimming – the atmosphere was always exciting – but what stands out the most are the days we got to try different sports with our mates. Whether it was a one-off clinic or a round-robin carnival, I've got really fond memories of just being active and having fun with friends through sport at school.
What do you love about your role with SSV? I love seeing kids getting out and enjoying a range of different sports. It's great to see students proudly representing their schools and, in doing so, potentially fostering a lifelong love for sport. It's also rewarding to create opportunities for students who might not otherwise get the chance to participate. Whether it's their first time at a big event or they're seasoned competitors, there's always a real buzz around school sport days.
Anything you would like to showcase in your area? Across the Latrobe Valley, we've got a strong sporting culture and some really passionate educators and volunteers who go above and beyond to make opportunities available for kids. It's great to see schools working together to make sports a big part of each student's school experience – whether that's through traditional carnivals, gala days, or just encouraging kids to have a go.
