SSV Primary Track and Field Championships Rules and Information

Events being marshalled will be called over the PA system and displayed on the Call Room notice Board 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the event. Please note that the Call Room this year is under the Northern Stand. Athletes will not be required in the Call Room until their event is called. Parents, coaches and teachers will not be permitted to enter the call room. Athletes will be escorted to their event from the Call Room. Competitors should be aware that the scheduled times printed in the programme are approximate and subject to change. Appropriate announcements will be made concerning any substantial alterations.

All athletes must arrive through the Call Room. If a competitor arrives late for the start of their event, they may still take their three trials as long as the half hour allocated to the event has not expired.
Where a clash occurs between a track event and a high jump event the competitor must report to the high jump event prior to marshalling for his/her track event. The competitor must return to the high jump as quickly as possible after the track event. The high jump event will continue in their absence. The competitor must continue at the new height when he/she returns. The bar will not be lowered.
If all competitors have not reported in, then final results may not be calculated until the half hour allocated to the event has expired.
Any competitor who unreasonably delays making a trial renders himself/herself liable to having that trial disallowed and recorded as a fault. (A reasonable time is normally one minute after the official responsible has indicated for the trial to begin.)
Above all, please be sympathetic. If a student has a good reason for being delayed then try and fit them into the event.

Each competitor receives 3 attempts.
The top 8 competitors at the conclusion of Round 3 will receive a further 1 attempt.
The final placings will be decided from all attempts.
The competitor must start the attempt from a stationary position.
The discus may be held in any manner and any throwing technique may be used.
For all throwing events, the throw must land within the inner edges of the lines marking the sector.
The competitor must not leave the circle or throwing area until the implement has touched the ground.
When leaving the circle or throwing area, the competitor must step out from the rear half of the circle or from behind the lines marking the throwing area.

The uprights are to be set up with the bar supports pointing inwards. The bar must have the opportunity of falling off either towards or away from the landing area.
The crossbar must always be replaced with the same surfaces facing upward and forward.
Competitors may not mark their run ups with chalk. Competitors may use two marks for run-up and take-off. Masking tape or a moveable object may be used.
Maximum spike length is 7 mm at Lakeside Stadium. For District, Division and Region competitions, this should be checked with the competition venue management.

High Jump – Rules

The jump is a failure if a competitor:

Dislodges the bar. (The competitor may hit the bar, however, it must stay lodged on the stands for a reasonable length of time.) A foul may be recorded even if the competitor has landed and moved from the landing area.
Takes off from two feet.
Touches the white tape or ground, including the landing area, beyond the plane of the upright, either between or outside the uprights, with any part of the body without clearing the bar.
Takes longer than the allotted time to commence a trial.

Three consecutive foul jumps constitutes elimination from the competition.
Competitors may commence jumping at any height above the minimum and may pass at any height. A competitor having missed one or two attempts at a particular height may 'pass' and make the next attempt at a subsequent height.
Competitors who leave the event to compete in another event must continue at the new height when they return. The bar will not be lowered.

High Jump – Determining Placings

The competitor with the lowest number of jumps at the height at which the last tie occurs shall be awarded the higher place.

If the tie still remains, the competitor with the lowest total of failures throughout the competition up to and including the height last cleared shall be awarded the higher place.
If the tie still remains:

If it concerns the first place, the competitors tying shall have one more jump at the lowest height at which any of those involved in the tie failed, and if no decision is reached, the bar shall be lowered if the tying athletes were successful, or raised if they were unsuccessful, 2 cm. They shall then attempt one jump at each new height until the tie is decided. Competitors so tying must jump on each occasion when deciding the tie.
If it concerns any other place, the competitors shall be awarded the same place in the competition.

There are no jump offs for any place other than first place.

The shot shall be put from the shoulder with one hand only.
At the time the competitor takes a stance in the circle to commence a put, the shot shall touch or be in close proximity to the neck or chin and the hand shall not be dropped below this position during the action of putting.
The shot must not be brought behind the line of the shoulders.
The jump is a failure if a competitor:

After entering the circle and commencing to make a put, should touch with any part of the body the top of the iron band or the stop board or the ground outside the circle.
Touches with any part of the body the top of the stop board.

In the Long Jump and Triple Jump, all jumps shall be measured from the nearest break in the landing area made by any part of the body or limbs to the take off line (or its extension). The measurement shall be taken perpendicular to the take off line.
In the Triple Jump, the hops, step and jump must be made in that order. The hop shall be made so that the competitor lands first on the same foot as that from which he/she has taken off; in the step he/she shall land on the other foot from which the jump is subsequently performed.
If a competitor in the Triple Jump touches the ground with the sleeping leg, it shall be considered a failure.
The jump is a failure if a competitor:

Touches the ground beyond the take off line with any part of the body, whether running up without jumping or in the act of jumping.
Takes off from outside either end of the board, whether beyond or before the extension of the take off line.
Touches the ground between the take off line and the landing area.
Employs any form of somersaulting while running up or in the act of jumping.
In the course of landing, touches the ground outside the landing area nearer to the take off line than the nearest break made in the sand.
When leaving the landing area, the first contact with the edge or ground outside the landing area is closer to the take off line than the nearest break made in the sand on landing.
