Track and Field

Track and Field State Championships are conducted by School Sport Victoria at both Primary and Secondary school levels.

Age Categories:

Primary:

9-10 Boys and Girls
9-10 Boys and Girls Multi Class
11 Boys and Girls
11 Boys and Girls Multi Class
12-13 Boys and Girls
12-13 Boys and Girls Multi Class

Secondary:

12-13 Boys and Girls
12-14 Boys and Girls Multi Class
14 Boys and Girls
15 Boys and Girls
16 Boys and Girls
15-16 Boys and Girls Multi Class
17 Boys and Girls
17-20 Boys and Girls Multi Class
18-20 Boys and Girls

The programs consists of individual events - sprints, middle-distance, long-distance, hurdles, throws, jumps & relay events - 4 x 100 metres - in each age group.

All State events are listed prior to the date of the event in the Event Calendar located on the right hand side panel. Each event will contain the venue, convenor, rules, information, draws/schedule & results. Results can be accessed post event by using the State Results link or by going to the State Event Calendar Section & selecting the date of the event.

Update to secondary interschool track and field program in 2026

Following School Sport Victoria’s (SSV’s) annual review of interschool sport rules, and with feedback from all 8 SSV regions, SSV has removed hurdles from secondary interschool track and field for boys and girls in 2026.

This decision reflects a number of important considerations:

there have been consistently low numbers of student entries for hurdles across each age group at Region and State level
some SSV regions do not have access to suitable hurdles equipment to run safe and effective events
concerns about student safety, particularly where students may not have adequate training given the technique and hurdle height.

SSV encourages any students interested in hurdlers competition to enter theAthletics Victoria - Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships to be held on 1-4 October 2026 at Lakeside Stadium. Details for the event can be accessed via the Athletics Victoria website.

There are no changes to primary hurdles in 2026.

Update to Team Vic 10-12 Years Track and Field team selection in 2026

In 2026, the Team Vic 10-12 years Track and Field Team will be selected at the State Primary Track and Field Championships. The team will be selected by the Team Officials selection committee. Selection Trial information can be found on the Team Vic Track & Field page.

In 2026, there will not be a separate selection trial event for the Team Vic 10-12 years Track and Field team.

This approach aligns with previous selection practices for this team and is possible again in 2026 due to the timing of the School Sport Australia Track and Field Championships being held later in 2026 (29 November to 3 December).
