Team Vic Student Endorsement Process

The School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic representative programme provides an opportunity for Victoria's emerging student athletes to challenge themselves against Australia's best school aged athletes across numerous sports at the annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships. SSV coordinate the selection process for Team Vic teams in partnership with relevant state sporting organisations. Depending on the sport and team, the selection process involves either:

Progressive or conference model
State trial/s
Results from event/s
Based on rankings/results or talent identification program

The Team Vic online registration to trial process opens up on a per needs basis - depending on the timing of the trials and the School Sport Australia Championships. We encourage Families, Schools and Principals to follow the below guidance as a way of trying to ensure that suitably skilled students are registering to trial. This pathway is highly competitive and intended for students who are already performing at an advanced representative level beyond local competition. It is not designed as a developmental, preparatory, or 'come and try' opportunity.
Step 1 - Prior to Registering:
Prior to registering, interested students and their family must consult with their School Principal or Physical Education Teacher. Principals/Teachers may wish to discuss the child's suitability to trial with the student's classroom teacher, as well as physical education staff. For specific teams (as listed in Step 1B), schools may elect to run an in-school trial to finalise their School Endorsements.
Step 1B:
For the following teams each school is only allowed to endorse a maximum of three (3) students to participate in the selection trials:
- Australian Football: 12 Years and Under Boys
- Basketball: 12 Years and Under Girls and Boys
- Cricket: 12 Years and Under Boys
- Football (Soccer): 12 Years and Under Boys
- Netball: 12 Years and Under Girls
Step 2 - Registration:
After consulting with their child's school, the family of the student can then proceed to register their child online.
Step 3 - In-school Trials:
For the sports listed in Step 1B only, SSV staff will contact the necessary schools if more than 3 students are registered and will ask the school to endorse 3 students. If a school is not in a position to endorse 3 students, SSV will request that schools hold 'in-school' trial to narrow the number of trialists and to notify SSV of the outcome. Schools could include the following components as a part of an 'in school' trial i.e.:
- Speed/agility assessment
- Endurance test
- Basic skills assessment i.e. kicking a ball on both feet accurately over a range of distances; or shooting a ball from different sides of the court / different ranges
- Game/match simulation
Schools are only allowed to endorse a maximum of three (3) students to participate in the selection trials listed in Step 1B.
Step 4 - Selection Trials:
Team Selection Trials take place as per the Team Information and Selection Guidelines for their specific team/sport.
Student Endorsement Step 5 - Team Selection:
After the Selection Trials are conducted, Principals (or their delegate) of a student who has been selected as a member of a Team Vic team will be asked to endorse the participation of the student as a Team Vic student athlete.
- Successful students in State Trials will then be provisionally announced as team members and receive further documentation in relation to their position on the Team Vic team
- Teams will not be confirmed as final until this endorsement from Principals is received
