How We Select the Team
  • You must meet the requirements set out in these selection guidelines.
  • A maximum of 13 players will be selected for the team.
  • Up to 4 non-travelling emergency players may also be selected. These players get the opportunity to train with the team.
  • Your selection is not confirmed until your school endorses your participation in the SSA Championships as a representative of your school and SSV.
Our Fair and Transparent Selection Process

Team Officials run a selection process that is fair and transparent. This includes designing guidelines and trial activities, assessing players, and keeping students, parents and teachers informed every step of the way.

Guidelines our selectors follow
  • Selectors give each trialist appropriate playing time to assess them. Selection is based on trial performance.
  • You must take part in at least one stage of the trial process to be eligible for selection.
  • If you cannot attend a trial, your parent or carer can request an exemption from SSV so you remain eligible. See the State Teams Trial Exception Policy for more information.
  • If you progress to the final state trial, you must attend to remain eligible for selection.
  • Team Officials may select a player who is injured or unavailable for an approved reason, in line with the State Teams Trial Exception Policy. You may be asked to provide a statutory declaration or medical certificate, and may still need to attend the trial process.
  • If a conflict of interest arises, for example a trial coordinator assessing a friend or relative, this will be reported to SSV, and a plan will be put in place to manage it.
  • Selectors consider team composition, so players from the same school or team are not advantaged over individual representatives.
  • Where appropriate, selectors focus on generic skills rather than specific positions.
  • Team balance is critical to selecting the final squad.
