Secondary Competition Rules
Matches are conducted under International Table Tennis Federation Laws.
- Team Size: 4 to 6 players per team.
- Match Structure: 6 rubbers (4 singles and 2 doubles).
- Rubber Format: Best of 5 games. Each game is played to 11 points (must win by a 2-point advantage).
- Nomination: Doubles pairings must be nominated before the start of each match. Players are restricted to one singles rubber and one doubles rubber per match.
- Service: Service rotates every 2 points.
- State Match Winner: Decided by total rubbers won. If tied, the winner is decided by games won, then total points won.
- Round Robin: Points are awarded as follows: 4 for a win, 2 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. Ties are resolved using the head-to-head result, followed by total rubbers, games, and points won.
- Finals: If a final is tied on rubbers, games, and points, each team nominates two doubles pairs to play an extra game simultaneously. If they split the results, the winning team is decided by total points.
- Toss: Players toss for choice of ends or service before matches.
- Hit-Up Time: 2 minutes for the first match; 1 minute for all subsequent matches.
- Injury Rule: If a player is injured during singles, they may be replaced for the doubles.
- Lateness: Teams more than 20 minutes late without notice forfeit their number 3 and 4 singles.
- Dress Code: Players must wear school sports uniforms or acceptable table tennis attire. Jeans, board shorts, and clothing with large logos are prohibited. Non-marking soled sports shoes are mandatory.
- Bats: TTA-approved bats. The surface covering must be matt, with one side black and the other blue, green, purple, pink, or bright red.
- Balls: TTA-approved 40mm balls (2.7g) made of celluloid or similar plastic, either white or orange.
- Documentation: An up-to-date team sheet with player numbers must be submitted to the convener on the day of competition.
- Medical: Schools must bring their own first aid kit and sports tape. Strapping must be performed by the school team.
