• Surfing State Championship Rules

  School Sport Victoria (SSV) member schools (Full and Associate) are invited to compete in the State Surfing Titles at Phillip Island.

  • Mixed Teams Title: Thursday 7 May
  • All Female Schools Teams Title: Thursday 7 May
  • Start Time: This will be confirmed on Tuesday 28 April, depending on the number of participating schools.

• Competition Rules and Guidelines

  The competition is conducted under the current Surfing Australia Rule Book. All participants, including teachers, officials, and spectators, must follow the:

  • SSV Codes of Conduct
  • Participant Behaviour Policy
  • General Conditions of Competition

• Age Eligibility

  Teams must consist of students from the same school.

  Mixed Teams (7 Surfers):

  • One designated female surfer.
  • Three Under 16 surfers (born 2011 or later).
  • Three Under 19 surfers (born 2008 or later).

  Female Teams (4 Surfers):

  • One Under 16 surfer (born 2011 or later).
  • Three Under 19 surfers (born 2008 or later).
  • Note: Female teams can be composed entirely of Under 16 surfers if needed.

• Competition Format

  The winning school is determined by the total points scored across all rides.

  • Heat Length: 45 to 60 minutes for Mixed; 30 to 45 minutes for Female (determined by the Contest Director).
  • Waves: Each surfer catches two waves before tagging the next team member in the designated area.
  • Double Points: One nominated surfer per team can select one wave to score double points by signalling immediately after the ride ends.
  • Order: Teams can compete in any order, provided the order is given to the Head Judge before the heat starts.

• What to Bring

  Schools are responsible for the first aid and treatment of their own students.

  • First Aid Kit: Every competing team must provide a kit suitable for the location.
  • Sports Tape: Students and teams must supply their own tape.
  • Strapping: Any required injury prevention strapping must be performed by the team or student.

  Note: SSV First Aid Responders are not permitted to perform preventative strapping
