School Sport Victoria Membership Policy

This policy outlines the requirement to become a member school of School Sport Victoria (SSV), the categories, benefits and fees.

School Sport Victoria (SSV) is responsible for the organisation and administration of school sport for SSV member schools at the Primary and Secondary level.

All schools located and registered within Victoria, are eligible to be members of School Sport Victoria.

Member schools pay an annual membership fee to be affiliated with SSV.

SSV membership is not a fee for service but rather an affiliation fee which provides a range of benefits for a member school and its students to access, whilst also supporting the overall role and operations of SSV.

Guidance

Becoming a Member of School Sport Victoria

To become an SSV member, a school must submit an application via the SSV website, SSV membership application form and accept the terms and conditions, according to their membership category, by the due date.

SSV requires individual schools to apply to be members.

Notes:

  1. All applications for all categories must be approved by the SSV Chief Executive Officer
  2. Once membership has been granted by the SSV Chief Executive Officer, schools will be notified in writing and assigned, after discussion, to the relevant District (Primary) or Division (Secondary) where possible and where most suitable according to the General Conditions of Competition.
  3. The relevant District or Division coordinator will be notified
  4. The school sports coordinator/delegate of each school is required to accept shared responsibility for attending meetings and organising sport within the District/Division

SSV Membership Categories

There are three (3) categories of SSV membership for schools:

Membership Type

Full Members

Qualifications: Any Government School. This includes Special Schools and Special Development Schools

Associate Members

Qualifications:

1. Non-Government Primary School; or

2. Non-Government Secondary School which:

2.1 does not participate in a regular school sport competition for students in year levels 7 to 12 conducted by another secondary school sport organisation/ association; and

2.2 is approved for admission to a Division as an Associate Member in accordance with the prescribed criteria.

Affiliate Members

Qualifications: Any Non-Government Secondary School that participates in a regular school sport competition for students in year levels 7 to 12 conducted by another secondary school sport organisation

Voting Rights: No voting rights at Special General Meetings

SSV Membership Fees

  • SSV membership is not a fee for service but rather a membership fee which provides a range of benefits for member schools and their students to access, whilst also supporting the overall role and operations of SSV.
  • SSV will publish the annual SSV membership fees on the SSV website by September for the following year.
  • SSV will issue individual schools' invoices for the membership fee in Term 1 of the school sporting year.
  • Payment terms are 30 days and are to be paid by the end of Term 1, for schools to access the range of benefits of SSV membership.
  • Schools are to advise SSV in writing where they decline SSV membership for the year.
  • Where a school member has not paid their SSV membership by the due date, SSV reserves the right to withdraw students and schools from SSV competitions, events, trials and programs currently underway.
  • By paying the SSV membership fee, schools agree to abide by the Policies, Procedures, Regulations, Decisions and Rules of SSV and its competitions which can be found on the SSV website.
  • In addition to the SSV membership fees, schools can be required to pay local fees to support the delivery of local level competitions, as agreed by the District/Division Committee.

Virtual School Victoria and Secondary School Equivalent Courses

Students whose substantive enrolment is with Virtual School Victoria (VSV) or Secondary School Equivalent Courses (ie TAFE run courses, other registered education institutions and where the course is approved for eligibility by SSV) only may participate in the following SSV interschool sports:

  • Swimming
  • Diving
  • Cross Country
  • Track and Field
  • Other sports where approved by SSV in advance

VSV and Secondary School Equivalent students can trial for any Team Vic team either individual sports or team sports.

Students whose substantive enrolment is with another school, and may only study single subjects with VSV or Secondary School Equivalent students (ie TAFE run courses, other registered education institutions and where the course is approved for eligibility by SSV), are eligible for interschool sport and Team Vic teams through their substantive school only

The VSV and Secondary School Equivalent students must be:

  • Registered with the Victorian Department of Education only
  • Provide official registration documentation for the current year as required
  • Comply with all other requirements to participate in the interschool and Team Vic programs e.g., age eligibility, codes of conduct, Team Vic trials registration fee etc.

Home Schooling Students

Home schooling students may participate in the following SSV interschool sports:

  • Swimming
  • Diving
  • Cross Country
  • Track and Field
  • Other sports where approved by SSV

Home schooling students can trial for any Team Vic team, either individual sport or team sport.

The home-schooling student must be:

  • Registered with the Victorian Department of Education only
  • Provide official registration documentation for the current year
  • Comply with all other requirements to participate in the interschool and Team Vic programs e.g., age eligibility, codes of conduct, Team Vic trials registration fee etc.
