  The SSV Premier League Football Championships are supported by Football Victoria. Please note that students entered in the Premier League team are not eligible to participate in the lower SSV Region competitions, in instances where a school may have an additional “Seconds”  Senior Football team in that year playing at Region level.

  Premier League schools may submit to SSV for an application to have an additional team in any competition year play at Region level.

• Age and Eligibility

  • Boys: Year 10 students may play a maximum of three Premier League matches and remain eligible for the SSV Intermediate competition. Year 7 to Year 9 students are ineligible for Premier League.
  • Girls: Year 9 and 10 students may play a maximum of three Premier League matches and remain eligible for the SSV Intermediate competition. Year 7 and 8 students are ineligible for Premier League.
  • Restrictions: Year 11 and 12 students competing in the Premier League cannot participate in the regular SSV Senior competition.

• Match Format

  Matches are conducted under FIFA Laws of the Game.

  • Boys: 2 x 40-minute halves.
  • Girls: 2 x 35-minute halves.
  • Interval: 15-minute half-time.
  • Interchange: Up to 6 interchange players are permitted.

  Points are awarded as follows: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. In the event of a tie, the winner is determined by:

  1. Head-to-head result.
  2. Goal difference.
  3. Most goals scored.
  4. Random draw (if still tied).

  Semi-Finals and Grand Finals

  If scores are tied at full-time:

  • Two extra periods of 10 minutes are played.
  • Coaches are not permitted on the ground during extra time.
  • If still tied, a penalty shootout determines the winner.

• Match Day Procedures

  • Team Sheets: Up-to-date team sheets with player uniform numbers must be provided to the opposing coach and referee on the day of the competition.
  • Lateness: If a team is more than 15 minutes late without notice, the match will be forfeited.
  • Officials: The home team must organise a Football Victoria-appointed referee, assistants, a venue, and three size 5 match balls. SSV coordinates officials for semi-finals and finals.
  • Dress Code: Teams must use a first and alternate strip featuring the school logo only. No sponsor or partnership branding is permitted. Shin guards are mandatory, and mouthguards are strongly recommended.
  • First Aid: Schools must provide their own first aid kits and sports trainers. Sports tape and injury-prevention strapping must be supplied and performed by the competing team.
