Concussion - If in doubt sit them out

The Department of Education has updated its First Aid Policy for Students and Staff that includes bringing School Sport Victoria activities under its requirements. This policy is aligned with the core elements of the Australian Concussion Guidelines for Youth and Community Sport. Key components of this updated policy include the principles of 'if in doubt sit them out' and if concussion is suspected 'review, refer and return', guided by a health practitioner.

Where School Sport Victoria appoints a State Sporting Organisation or National Sport to an officiating role, the concussion policy and guidelines for that sport shall also apply on the field of play, where that policy aligns with the Department First Aid Policy.
