These rules apply to State, Region, and Division competitions. Variations at Region and Division levels are available on the relevant event page.
Match Format Consult the SSV website or the relevant Coordinator for Region and Division formats. State Format: Split Round Robin and State Final.
State Match Schedule Matches consist of 2 x 15-minute halves with a 2-minute half-time break. There is no 24-second shot clock. The clock stops on all whistles only during the final three minutes of the second half. A Pre-Championships Briefing is held for all teams before the first round.
State Round Robin Winners Points: 4 for a win, 2 for a draw, 0 for a loss. If two teams are tied on points, the head-to-head match result determines the winner. If that match was a draw, the total percentage from all games is used. If more than two teams are tied, the percentage from matches involving only the tied teams determines the winner.
State Final Winner If tied at the end of the final, 3-minute extra periods are played until a result is reached.
Competitions follow the SSV ‘General Conditions of Competition’, ‘Codes of Conduct’, and ‘Participant Behaviour Policy’.
Lateness Penalty Teams over 10 minutes late without notice may be penalized one point for every minute late.
Conducted under FIBA Rules as interpreted by Basketball Victoria with these exceptions:
One 1-minute time-out is allowed per team per half. No time-outs are permitted in the last minute of the first half except for Referee's Time-Outs (for injury, 5 fouls, or player ejection), during which the clock stops.
Singlets/tops must be the same color and design, legally numbered 00-99. Shorts must be the same color and design with no pockets. Players in shorts with pockets cannot play. Other uniform violations incur a 5-point penalty per player (maximum 20 points per game).
