Advisory Committee Role Description

Purpose

The purpose of the Advisory Committee is to support the strategic management of SSV, including strategic direction, its key programs and stakeholder partnerships.

The role of the Committee is to provide advice to SSV on:

  • Trends in the education and sport sectors
  • Government priorities and alignment
  • Development of SSV policies
  • Financial management and sustainability
  • Partnerships and sponsorships
  • Stakeholder and customer engagement and feedback (including schools).

Committee Roles

The Advisory Committee consists of thirteen (13) members. The following five (5) positions will be appointed personnel:

  • Chair - CEO, School Sport Victoria
  • DJSIR Sport and Recreation Victoria representative
  • DE Wellbeing Health and Engagement Division representative
  • DE Finance representative
  • DE Regional office representative

The required skills, experience and/or knowledge for the eight (8) nominated roles are provided below:

Role

Skills, expertise and/or knowledge

Education sector: 

School representative (including Principal class and teachers)

Experience in, and perspective across, either primary/secondary, metropolitan/regional, Government/Independent schools. 

Engagement of schools and students in sport and physical activity. 

Understanding of the priorities of schools as it relates to sport. 

Understanding of the benefits of sport participation and physical activity for individuals and schools.

Sport sector: 

State Sporting Association representative

Experience in sport participation amongst children and young people. 

Knowledge of priorities, opportunities and challenges for Victorian State Sporting Associations. 

An understanding of the relationship between school sport and community sport. 

An understanding of the role of State Sporting Associations in the provision of school sport.

Sport sector: 

Victorian Council representative

Knowledge of priorities, opportunities and challenges for Victorian councils in sport, recreation and physical activity. 

Experience in the provision and management of community sport and recreation facilities and places. 

Experience in sport participation amongst children and young people. 

Understanding of the role and benefits of school sport as it relates to local government priorities and policy.

Sponsorship and communications: 

Commercial and communications representative

Experience in commercial partnerships, including sporting events, teams and programs. 

Experience in marketing and communication strategy, including social and digital engagement. 

Experience relevant to the sport industry. 

Knowledge of relevant sport industry trends.

Inclusion / equity / child safety: 

Health equity and/or inclusion representative

Experience in health equity and/or inclusion, particularly as it relates to policy and practice. 

Understanding of barriers and opportunities for under-represented population groups. 

Experience in child safety and engagement of children and young people.
