School sport in Victoria owes much to its Life Members. As the School Sport Victoria Life Members gathered for their annual lunch at the Emerald Hotel, the collective experience was inspiring. As members settled in for an enjoyable afternoon in the garden setting, the laughter indicated that each of the 48 members in attendance were happy to reconnect and reminisce.
Nick Mooney, interim CEO of School Sport Victoria (SSV), opened the gathering with some highlights from this year's SSV events, followed by Peter Wright contributing to the discussion on the topic of the Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund, Peter was then followed by former VPSSSA CEO Mike Murray, who gave a fitting tribute to the late Don Stanley.
Although one of SSV's long standing Life Members, Neil McLean, could not be there in person, it was special to have so many of his treasured memorabilia on display. One of the items was the "Hudson Cup" I.S.F.C. The inscription, dating back to 1931, reads "Hudson Cup presented by J.S. Hudson Esq" which was to be retained by the state with the most wins over a period of six years.
The winners inscribed on the Hudson Cup by state are:
1931 - Victoria
1932 - South Australia
1933 - Victoria
1934 - Victoria
1935 - South Australia
1936 - Victoria
School Sport Victoria is grateful for the many years of service that the remarkable Life Members have given to school and community sport. You can see the entire list of life members on the SSV website.
