Each year, 900 students compete as members of Team Vic at the School Sport Australia National Championships. Each of these students has excelled at their sport, resulting in them being chosen to represent Victoria in a school sport state team. Many outstanding athletes have represented Team Vic in the past, including Steve Hooker, Nicole Livingstone, Chris Judd, Sharelle McMahon, Gary Ablett Jnr, Gary Lyon, Kyle Vander-Kuyp and Linley Frame.
While all young people selected for Team Vic have the talent and commitment to succeed, not all have the funds or support to take up the opportunity.
To eliminate this barrier to participation, SSV has established the Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund. Scholarships are awarded to a number of the Team Vic state teams from the fund to help support Victorian students from low socio-economic, indigenous or rural and regional backgrounds, who have been selected to represent Victoria as a member of Team Vic. Each scholarship is $800.
Participating in sport provides young people with social, cultural and educational opportunities, encouraging healthy lifestyles, the development of life skills and lifelong friendships. For those from disadvantaged backgrounds, these benefits can be far reaching.
The SESF has its own, independent Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status and as such all donations are tax deductible.
