Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund Function

Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund Function
16/10/2017

It's pretty rare to be in the presence of two Olympic gold medalists, and yet that is what we were privileged to witness at the Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund Function.  KPMG hosted the function on the 36th floor of their building.  The view was spectacular, but that didn't distract from the engaging conversations taking place at the pre-event drinks.  As five of the recently selected Team Vic athletes moved through the room, they were living proof of the reason we do what we do.  Tim Karpinski (Tennis), Molly Thatcher (Cross Country), Madalaine Vollmer (Cross Country), Yazmin Hayes (Cross Country) and Koreti Leilua (Rugby League) attended the SESF Function proudly wearing their Team Vic uniform. Their presence meant that the conversations naturally turned to focus around their sporting experience.  The highlight of the day for all who attended was to not only hear from Mack Horton OAM and Steve Hooker OAM, but to hold Mack's gold medal, and then be given a rare photo opportunity with both of them.

The formal proceedings started with an important reminder and thank you from the kids themselves to the sponsors, in the form of a short video. Watch SESF Video

The attention soon shifted to hearing from two of the Olympic greats, Mack Horton OAM Rio 400m Freestyle gold medalist and Steve Hooker OAM (SSV Ambassador), Beijing Pole Vault gold medalist as they shared about their journey through elite sport.

As these legends of the sport spoke, it was clear that the inspiration and encouragement resonated with all who listened.
